CHAI - LEBEN

Living Together without Hate and Antisemitism

In a society where people have an interest in other people, where there is openness towards other cultures and religions and where there is an exchange, anti-Semitism cannot flourish.

The installation CHAI  Ö´×™ Ö·×— symbolizes this idea of a living relationship. Chai means life.  The seed in the form of the  Ö´×™ Ö·×— will sprout and grow during the exhibition. The planting symbolizes all aspects of a relationship: sowing, care, watering. As it grows in the public space of the gallery, it will be the joint efforts of many that contribute to the success of the project.

Should the planting or parts of it nevertheless die, it will be sown again. Every relationship goes through crises and must be revitalized again and again.

There are 18 containers with seeds by the bed. In Jewish numerology, each letter is assigned a numerical value. "Chai" consisting of "Chet" (8) and "Jod" (10) is added to 18. The number 18 is therefore spiritually significant as the numerical value of life.  Each of the 18 seeds has a connection to Israel/the Jewish faith, which is briefly outlined on the enclosed cards. The cups with the seeds are an invitation to everyone to participate in the installation as a symbolic act and to sow and water themselves.
